QuickOffice shows off version for Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets

QuickOffice has been making top-notch productivity apps for smartphones for quite some time, and now the company has unveiled a new version for Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets. As is the case with its apps for other platforms (including iOS and webOS), the new tablet version features Google Docs, Dropbox, MobileMe, and SugarSync integration and offers on-the-go editing of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. QuickOffice is fully Microsoft Office compatible, of course.

uTorrent 3 hands on: zero-config Web control, streaming, and one-click file sharing

uTorrent 3 beta [download link], which has been publicly available since the end of 2010, is now stable enough and juicy enough for you to sink your teeth into.

As far as actual torrenting goes, uTorrent 3 is very similar to its precursor, but it's now very apparent that this new version is about extending the BitTorrent protocol -- and the company -- into another space entirely.

The main new feature, which we alluded to when we reviewed uTorrent Remote for Android last week, is integration with uTorrent Web. uTorrent Web is a completely new offering from BitTorrent (the company) that offers secure and private zero-config control of your torrents via a Web control panel.

There's more, though! Video and music streaming makes its return, and 'Pulse' torrent ratings are making their debut. Finally, there's a new way to share files with your friends with the magic of TinyURL, BitTorrent, and 'Web Seeds.' Read on for the full hands-on treatment.

Windows Phone 7 update to bring Twitter and SkyDrive integration, webOS style multitasking

The way webOS handles task switching -- via its card interface -- is one of my favorite features of Palm/HP's mobile OS. Microsoft seems to like it, too, at least that's what we assume since the Windows Phone 7 multitasking update will bring a very similar experience. In the image above, you can see a zoomed-out display of all currently running apps, which you'll be able to flick through and tap to switch. Microsoft initially omitted this kind of multitasking due to battery concerns, but say that's no longer an issue.

Windows Phone 7 users will also be receiving full-featured Twitter and SkyDrive integration, and, of course, Internet Explorer Mobile 9 (check the images in the gallery). All the goodness is set to arrive "later in 2011."

Android '2.4' Gingerbread will arrive in April, will support dual-core Honeycomb apps

No, that's not a typo: an update to Android 2.3 will arrive in April to allow single-core smartphones to run Honeycomb's dual-core apps. The news comes from hardware manufacturer Viewsonic, which insists the new version will be numbered 2.4 -- and it won't be called Ice Cream as expected; it will just be an updated version of Gingerbread.

Apparently the only change between 2.3 and 2.4 is the support for Honeycomb apps, which are designed to run with a dual-core processor -- and Android 2.3, as it stands, only supports single-core processors. Viewsonic is releasing a 'jumbo' smartphone with a 4.1" screen, which is why it understandably wants access to the Honeycomb library of tablet-oriented apps.

We're not sure why Google would break away from its now-famous versioning system. It's also odd that this news comes from a third party, and not Google itself. We wouldn't be surprised if this actually turns out to be version 2.3.3 or 2.3.4, rather than 2.4. The same source at Viewsonic also says that Ice Cream will be 3.1, and thus another tablet-oriented OS -- which would mean that the next smartphone version of Android could begin with 'J.'
