Samsung Galaxy S II now available on US Cellular, arrives in stores tomorrow

Galaxy S II

As we predicted last week, the Galaxy S II will arrive in US Cellular stores tomorrow, March 1, with online availability beginning today. The award winning smartphone will cost you $229.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and with a two year contract (you'll get another $100 off if you're a new customer), and will surf on the carrier's 3G network rather than its soon-to-launch LTE wavelengths.

It's the same Galaxy S II you've grown to love, complete with a 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.2 Ghz dual-core Exynos processor, and 16 GB internal storage. It's shipping with Gingerbread, and US Cellular hasn't made its Android 4.0-update plans clear as of yet, though we're hoping they'll keep on top of it.

Those of you who've been patiently waiting can grab yours today at the source link, or sit tight and head into a US Cellular retail location tomorrow.

Use the Android Central Wallpaper Gallery to help design your next credit card

Android Central

Have you ever signed up for a new credit card, gone through the approval process and got stuck on the card design at the end? Often times the designs are never cool enough, they never fit your very own style and finding something awesome isn't always the easiest. Android Central forums member zero neck decided to make use of the stock Ice Cream Sandwich wallpaper on their card, and the results were pretty awesome. But again we realize that isn't for everyone, but there is likely to be something for everyone in our favorite wallpaper gallerty, right?

So why not before ordering your next credit card, hit up the Android Central Wallpaper Gallery, browse around for a few minutes, and grab yourself an extra awesome wallpaper to make great use of?

Samsung updates S Pen SDK to 2.0, SCanvasView brings Note animation and narration

Following Samsung's launch of the it's-definitely-a-tablet 10.1 Note, it's become even more clear that the company's stylus S Pen is here to stay, in a very big way. Now, it's time for third-party developers to get sketchy with version 2.0 of the S Pen SDK. The biggest feature boost is the ability to animate drawings to pair with recorded voice, while other additions include SAMM Library access, improved rendering and the ability to revert after accidentally clearing all. Ready to start jotting? Hit up our source link below and get your download on.

Are Security Vendors Living in Glass Houses?

What would happen if you paid taxes or protection money but didn't get protected because your protectors themselves were getting clobbered? Worse still, what if they didn't tell you they had been compromised and that you might not be safe? That situation played out recently after yet another company suffered a system breach and kept largely silent on the matter.

Pastebin updated to V3, releases Windows app

pastebin
Pastebin is a very popular website aimed at coders and other nerdy types, which allows them (or should I say, us) to paste and share snippets of code with lovely syntax highlighting.

It has recently undergone a major overhaul which includes the release of a brand new Windows client. The new client lets you create new "pastes" and manage your existing ones. It joins a host of other tools from Pastebin, such as the Google and Chrome extensions, OS X widget and the mobile apps.

If you're currently using Pastebin, the new client is a great addition. And if you haven't tried it before, next time you have a piece of code you want to share or get some feedback on, you could do worse than try out Pastebin.

[Thanks, Jeroen!]

SwiftKey launches SDK for handset and device manufacturers

BlackBerry PlayBook

When BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 was we released were a little surprised to find out that it was indeed making use of SwiftKey for it's new auto-correct functionality. The latest announcement from SwiftKey sheds light on the subject though, as they've now announced a new SDK for handset and device manufacturers.

Dr. Ben Medlock, CTO of SwiftKey explains: “As we are interacting with more devices, technology that accurately understands what a user is trying to say or do with their devices is vital. It only takes a cursory look at user groups to realize that typing is one of the biggest frustrations that people have on tablets and smartphones. The launch of our SDK will give OEMs access to better typing experience, with their own look and feel.”

The SwiftKey SDK is being made available to various platforms including iOS, QNX/BlackBerry 10, Windows and more. You can find the full press release from SwiftKey past the break for you all.

HTC One series heading to the UK, due to be available SIM free in April

Android Central

We've had quite the night in Barcelona. Fresh from HTC's official launch of the One Series of devices, what we want now -- aside from actually getting our hands on them -- is to know just when we can actually get our hands on them. The UK is faring pretty well out of MWC so far, and we've already had word from a couple of UK carriers and a top UK electronics retailer confirming their supply of the devices.

Android Central at Mobile World Congress

Coming right out of the gate are Clove Technology. Clove will be stocking the whole trio of devices, including the white version of the One X. SIM free the One X will cost £492, the One S will be £450 and the One V comes in at a reasonable £264. The One X and One S are both slated to be available from Thursday April 5. The One V is a few weeks behind, due on Thursday April 26. Hit the links below for Clove's HTC products page.

Carriers already confirmed to be stocking HTC's latest are Three and Vodafone. Three will be carrying all three of the One Series devices, but as yet can't offer any possible pricing or availability information.

Vodafone will only be carrying the One X and the One S. Again, no word on price or availability at this time, only that both are "coming soon."

Additionally, third party retailer Phones4U have added both the black and white One X to their coming soon page. Nothing beyond a "register your interest" box for now, but it looks like there won't be a shortage of places to get your hands on one.

Sony Xperia U hands-on (update: video!)

Sony certainly didn't pull out the big guns today at its Mobile World Congress 2012 keynote -- those showstoppers were for CES. Instead, the electronics giant decided to trot out two new, mid-to-low end additions to its NXT line of handsets, a portfolio that previously claimed the ion and S as its sole occupants. Focused on delivering a handset for every price point, the ill-concealed Xperia U, formerly known by its cheeky Kumquat codename, combines a compact, idiosyncratic design with user experience flourishes to add value and a higher profile to an otherwise ground floor device. We got to spend some brief time with the handset, so join us after the break as we share our first impressions.

iSites overhauled, now lets you publish cloud-based HTML5 iPhone apps in minutes

iSites -- a zero-code cloud-based 'app creator' -- can now generate HTML5 apps that work on iOS devices. With this new feature, dubbed 'InstantApp', you can now design a single app in your browser and publish it natively on Android and iOS, and as an HTML5 iPhone app.

We haven't looked at iSites before, but it shot to fame last year when it launched with native iOS and Android support. Self-publishing Android apps wasn't a problem because Google does very little moderation of the Market, but iSites ran into trouble with its iOS apps. Thousands of people signed up for the service after it was featured on Mashable and TechCrunch, and you can imagine Apple's chagrin as thousands of cookie cutter apps flooded its approval queue.

Genwi, the developer behind iSites, realized something had to be done -- it had to circumvent the App Store approval process. Genwi, of course, turned to HTML5 Web apps -- which can be pinned to the iPhone home screen and which can be shoehorned into almost behaving like native apps.

Read on for our experiences with iSites' new InstantApp HTML5 iOS app creator.
